PET LOSS

Resources for Pet Loss & Grief Support

Station Plaza Veterinary GroupLosing a pet is a difficult experience and it often feels like you've lost a member of your family. At Station Plaza Veterinary Group, we understand the grieving process well and hope that our services can help you through this difficult period.

  • Light a candle - We invite our clients and community members to light a candle in remembrance of a special pet, where it will be preserved online to honor his or her memory.
  • Pet memorials - Memorializing your pet can be a helpful and important step in the grieving process. We invite our clients to create an online memorial for their deceased pets including videos, pictures, captions, and guest books.

Talking to Children About the Loss of a Pet

Talking to your child about the traumatic event of losing of a pet can be especially difficult, because the death of a pet is often the first loss that a child experiences. It is often wrongly assumed that it is best to shelter children from the reality of pet loss to make the transition easier. This is not the right approach, and children will need straight forward answers to their questions.

For a discussion about talking to children of different ages about pet loss, as well as questions they may ask and suggestions for memorializing your pet, we encourage you to read the article Pet Loss from the Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement.

You have the very best, compassionate care for miles! (And it is NOT a terribly short trip for us.) We would never bring our babies anywhere else! With all my love to Dr. R., Dr. S., Uncle Mike, Linda, Carolyn, and Megan! Your knowledge is only surpassed by your love and devotion! -- Beth
